Athletics is the last event of the Inter-house sports competition and the most eagerly anticipated. The Annual Inter-house Athletics Competition was held on Friday 3 February. The ‘Heats’ session had already been held on Thursday and the participants had been selected by the House In charges.
Friday dawned cloudy and overcast with forecasts of rain, but the spirits of our athletes were high and could not be dampened by the rain which did start in the middle of the event.
All students from Grade 4 through 10 took part in the competition. There were 3 categories based on age. Category A comprised Grade 8,9 and 10 and Category B included grade 6 and 7. Grade 4,5 and 6 made up C Category.
The events included sprint race, relay race, marble race, book on head race, three-legged race, hurdle races, slow cycling etc. The participants showed great zest and enthusiasm and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the competition despite the light drizzle that continued in the latter part of the competition.
The last and most eagerly event ‘Tug of War’ had to be postponed when the drizzle turned into a downpour, leaving the spectators with something to look forward to. This was then held on the next day. Jinnah House managed to emerge as the overall winner of the event.
